A recent study, in The Journal of the American College of Cardiology, found that replacing saturated fats (animal fat, palm and coconut oil) with olive oil offered a 14% lower risk for cardiovascular disease, and an 18 % lower risk for coronary disease! Although the positive effects have been well documented in Europe, this is the first American study and it clearly shows the benefit of substituting olive oil for saturated fats.
