This Valentine’s Day, have a love affair with yourself.

February is American Heart Month – time to check in with your beautiful heart. Please go to the American Heart Association website to learn more about maintaining heart health. Today, February 2nd is National Wear Red Day. Wear red to bring greater attention to heart disease as a leading cause of death for Americans and perhaps save a life.

It’s hard to believe it’s already February (more on that to come). This month in the studio we’re going to be focused on the Hindu deity Hanuman. According to the epic story from Hindy mythology, Hanuman, known for his incredible loyalty, meets Lord Rama and becomes his devoted servant.

Hanuman jumps from India to Sri Lanka to rescue Lord Rama’s wife Sita, who has been kidnapped by the demon king Ravana. Hanuman’s leap to Sri Lanka is described as a remarkable feat! He uses his immense strength and divine powers to leap across the ocean – covering hundreds of miles in a single jump. This jump signifies Hanuman’s unwavering devotion to Lord Rama.

I see Hanuman as the ultimate Valentine! Of all the things that may be transient, it is that enduring loyalty that speaks so strongly of love. His devotion gives him his superpower and I think that is very relatable. There is nothing in this world more powerful than the power of love. The ability to lift someone up when they are at their lowest is a remarkable feat! Understanding that we’re not alone is truly magical.

AND there is another profound message to consider. In this myth, Lord Rama represents the ultimate reality and Hanuman represents the ultimate commitment to reality. Can you love reality?

We all live in a dream world to a degree. It’s the human condition:

“What kinds of perceptions and thoughts and feelings guide us through life each day? The answer at the most basic level, isnt “the kinds of thoughts and feelings and perceptions that give us an accurate picture of reality. No, at the most basic level the answer is “the kinds of thoughts and feelings and perceptions that helped our ancestors get genes into the  next generation”…our brains are designed to, among other things, delude us.” – Robert Wright, Why Buddhism is true.

And the work is to choose the red pill like Neo in The Matrix, or in other words, to have a love affair with reality.

We can choose reality – stay with it, be here, show up, be open, turn toward the sights and the sounds and the thoughts that pass through our minds – or we can choose to turn away. Pema Chodron, When Things Fall Apart.

Do you love the idea of someone or do you love them as they are today?

“What would people look like if we could see them as they are-  soaked in honey, stung and swollen, reckless, pinned against time? Ellen Bass, If you Knew.

Can you love yourself, in this moment perfectly flawed, or only the idealized version of who you may one day be? We hear it over and over, but it is worth repeating. There is no love without self-love. Start here: “May I be safe, may I be happy, may I be healthy, may I live with ease.”

This month we’re asking everybody to bask in the glow of Hanuman’s love story. I plan on spending more time noticing the love in my life, cultivating self-love, and getting closer to reality! `

Reserve your private celebration yoga class at PLaY!

Are you planning a special celebration in the Catskill Mountains? Consider adding a private yoga class at PLaY Catskills to the agenda. Celebration yoga can be a wonderful way to combine the benefits of yoga with the joy of celebrating a special occasion or simply the joy of life. Whether it’s a small, intimate gathering or a larger gathering, our focus will be on fostering a sense of well-being, connection, and celebration.

We can ground the theme of the class in whatever it is you are celebrating -a “gratitude yoga” session around Thanksgiving or a “new beginnings yoga” session for a birthday. We’ve been fortunate to have a number of brides and grooms walk through our doors for yoga during their wedding weekend, and we love the energy of a bachelor or bachelorette party! We can host you and your loved ones during a sunrise or sunset for an extra serene and beautiful experience.

The celebration yoga at PLay includes a 60 minute yoga class set to music of your choosing, followed by healthy snacks, socializing and a champagne toast. We’ll also take digital photos for you to remember the experience and share with friends and family.

What is there to do in the Catskills?
This is a question I get asked all the time and I love it!
It’s an opportunity for me to share some fabulous insider Catskill experiences. We’ve
been exploring the Catskills and the fabulous Delaware County for over fifteen years.
Here my top five ways to spend a day.
Yoga at PLaY (Peace Love and Yoga @playcatskills) followed by coffee at Watershed’s
deck (@watershedroxbury). Of course, this is our number one adventure. Start the day
in one of our expertly-led classes. You’ll be inspired by the incredible view, the
beautifully designed space, and the friendly community. After class, take a short walk or
drive down the road to Watershed. There you can sample delicious coffee or tea, and
tasty treats. Now that’s how you start a Saturday!
Susan’s Pleasant Pheasant Farm. Halcottsville,N.Y.(@SusansPleasantpheasantfarm)They rent and sell kayaks and canoes.Paddle on their lake and river wetlands and enjoy the bird life. Osprey, eagles, great blue Herron,
kingfishers, common mergansers, owls, red tail hawks, wood ducks, cedar wax wings,
and more. They have a beaver lodge and dam too. There’s an charming spot to picnic.
Hop across the street to Sweet Pea Supply Company (@sweetpeasupplycompany) for
fresh food prepared with love in the heart of the Catskills.
Ski Plattekill (@plattekill_mtn) -Roxbury NY As local as local can get. Family owned and
operated by the Vajtay family. Fiercely Independent and “keeping it real” in the Catskill
Mountains. Authentic mountain vibe and a unique atmosphere. Powder magazine called
it “The Alta of the Catskills”! Follow a day of skiing with a sumptuous and hearty dinner
at Half Acre (@halfacrecatskills). Warm cozy vibe, friendly staff, and excellent seasonal
fare celebrating Catskills Heritage.
Rent bikes at the Roxbury General Store (@roxburygeneralstore) or take a relaxing
hike, stroll, ski, or horseback ride on the Catskill Scenic Trail. The Catskill Scenic Trail is a
multi-use rail trail along the former Ulster and Delaware Railroad right-of-way in rural Delaware
County, New York. It runs approximately 26 miles from Roxbury, New York to Bloomville, New York.
Halfway along the trail, you’ll find yourself in the backyard of the wonderful Hidden Inn 1893 in South
Kortright, N.Y.(@thehiddeninn1893). Great food, great service, and an iconic Catskills experience.

Last but not least, make your way to Big Indian and hike the majestic and challenging
giant ledge. Enjoy this 6.3-mile out-and-back trail. Generally considered a challenging
route. This is a very popular area for camping, hiking, and snowshoeing, so you’ll likely
encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to
visit anytime. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some areas. After you’ve
worked up an appetite head over to Eastwinds Hotel and Dandelion Restaurant
(@dandelioneastwind) for the vibes and the food! But don’t believe me – read what
Conde Nast has to say “Dandelion, the property’s restaurant and bar, is inspired by cozy
aprés-ski bars, its hearth and warm corners designed to offer shelter and retreat. The

menu, consisting of “international comfort food,” is small, thoughtful, and impeccably
executed by Daniel Cipriani, the co-founder and F&B director.”
